Jul. 14, 2010 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) -- The spring 2010 AIMS scores will be released today by the Arizona Department of Education. Scores were "steady" in grades three through five in reading, according to the department.
Reading scores were up in grades six through 10. Science scores for grades four, eight and high school were also slightly higher.
Math scores overall decreased.
"Last year, on the recommendation of the Department of Education, the State Board of Education adopted new, rigorous, internationally benchmarked math standards.
It was discussed at the time that this would cause some reduction in AIMS math test scores, and this shows in the 2010 results," a news release from the department states.
The AIMS writing test was administered for grades five, six, seven and high school. It was suspended for grades three, four and eight.
